Coming Home – Call for Designers

Posted on: 25. October 2016

The Graz-based Geba Rugs Gallery has been a flagship of international carpet design since 1987. At the beginning there was a vision: inspired by contemporary art and architecture, the carpet designer Harald Geba decided to rethink the rug. Since then, Geba rugs have combined timeless, modern design with traditional craftsmanship. For 30 years the philosophy of Geba rugs has remained the same: to bring high quality carpets into every beautiful home. To celebrate the 30th anniversary, the Geba Rugs Gallery, in cooperation with Creative Industries Styria, announces a design competition.

Design – Quality – Soul
Geba rugs are strictly manufactured to highest qua- lity standards. The raw material is the extremely fine and at the same time outstandingly resistant Tibetan Highland Wool, that is being sheared, washed, carded, spun and dyed by hand. According to design and demands on the carpet, additional materials such as silk, hemp or other natural fibers are being processed.

The rugs are hand-knotted according to the designers’ specifics (design, colours, shape and size) in the partner ateliers in Nepal. A carpet is a bit of home that gains a soul by people walking and relaxing on it.
Especially in times of globalization and modern nomadism, one ends up wondering what makes a home and what makes us go home?
