2025 UNESCO Creative Cities Design Forum Successfully Held in Shanghai

As the core event of World Design Cities Conference 2025, the UNESCO Creative Cities Design Forum was successfully held in Shanghai on September 25th to celebrate the 15th anniversary of designation as a UNESCO Creative City of Design.

Under the theme “Design Empowers Traditional Crafts: Unlocking Economic Value,” the forum gathered over 150 delegates from over 30 Creative Cities across 15 countries—including the UK (Dundee), Germany (Berlin), Italy (Como), Japan (Nagoya), South Korea (Jinju), Thailand (Chiang Rai), Indonesia (Bandung), and China (Beijing, Wuhan, etc.). 17 speakers from UNESCO Creative Cities, world-renowned design schools, leading companies, reputed designers delivered inspiring on the best practice. Ms. Denise Bax, Secretary of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network and Coordinator of the UNESCO Cities Platform and representatives of creative cities from 15 countries across five continents, sent the congratulatory video messages for Shanghai 15th anniversary as UNESCO Creative City of Design.

 

 

The event underscored UNESCO’s commitment to fostering innovation while safeguarding cultural heritage, providing a global platform for creative cities to share expertise, exchange best practices, empower communities, and shape sustainable, design-led futures.
