New Perspectives for the Historic Center 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Edition
Mission
This project was developed by the Office of the Historic Center and Cultural Heritage of the Puebla City Council in collaboration with the World Heritage Directorate of INAH, the Amparo Foundation I.A.P., the Amparo Museum, and the College of Architects of Puebla A.C., and has been held annually during 2022, 2023, and 2024. Through this contest, we promoted citizen participation, engaging both students and professionals from the fields of design, architecture, urban planning, and restoration in the processes of identifying, analyzing, and strengthening the management of Puebla’s Historic Center in terms of conservation and revalorization by generating conceptual projects for housing and public space rehabilitation.
In the three editions of “Rehabilitate & Inhabit,” we achieved:
- 205 conceptual projects, of which 155 were from students and 50 from professionals.
- 35 awarded projects.
- 8 sites within Puebla’s Historic Center revalued in terms of structural analysis, conservation, rehabilitation, and revitalization.
Vision
From a participatory approach, the “Rehabilitate & Inhabit” contest fostered creativity, design, and innovation as key factors in developing a new public policy for the conservation of Puebla’s built cultural heritage.
Also, the Office of the Historic Center and Cultural Heritage of the Puebla City Council generated a promotion programe for the winning projects, including project exhibitions, publication of articles in the media, and several meetings between the winners and the investor community in the city of Puebla, as well as encounters with representatives of the Mexican architecture community, such as Enrique Norten and Tatiana Bilbao.
