Mission
With the aim of creating a new creative space to encourage the exchange of ideas among the university community of Puebla and to place the integral well-being of Puebla’s children at the center of government actions and municipal public policies, the Office of the Historic Center and Cultural Heritage of the Puebla City Council developed this initiative to invite undergraduate students to design, produce, and set up temporary interventions that allow Puebla’s children to enjoy the public space of Puebla’s Historic Center.
This initiative took place from August 29 to September 15 as follows:
- August 29-30: Design of temporary installations and selection of the winning project at the facilities of the Institute of Design and Technological Innovation (IDIT) at the Ibero-American University of Puebla.
- August 31 – September 12: Production of the winning project.
- September 13-14: Installation of the winning project on one of the most emblematic streets of Puebla’s Historic Center.
In the 1st edition of the Sudden Interuniversity Puebla Design City, we achieved:
- The participation of 25 undergraduate students from the fields of architecture, graphic design, industrial design, and urban planning from seven different universities.
- Evaluation of the projects by a jury composed of specialists in design, architecture, public space, and childhood.
- The production of “Origami,” the name of the winning project.
- The appropriation and enjoyment of the “Origami” pavilion by the children of Puebla.
Vision
With this initiative, we generated a statement that will promote the development of new government actions and public policies focused on the integral well-being of Puebla’s children, their access to safe and recreational public spaces, and their access to the cultural life of their city. The Sudden Interuniversity Puebla Design City is designed to be held annually, developing challenges that propose solutions to local social issues with the active participation of Puebla’s university students.
