Project

Following adoption of the Montréal 2030 Agenda for Quality and Exemplarity in Design and Architecture, the City of Montréal issued a directive to ensure that designers and architects behind projects in the city are identified in communications related to those projects.

To support that directive, the cities of Montréal and Dundee (United Kingdom) partnered on a simultaneous online campaign that aimed to raise public awareness of the importance of naming design and architecture professionals when their projects are presented in the media.

Through series of photos under the theme #whoisthedesigner (#Quiestledesigner), an original idea launched by Kollectif in 2021, this campaign highlighted the work of the design teams that collaborated on public and para-public projects in Montréal.

The Montréal photo series featured seven public and para-public projects in the city that leveraged the talents of professionals working in the architecture and design disciplines (e.g., industrial design, graphic design, urban design, architecture, landscape architecture).

Mission

The initiative encourages users and promoters to emphasize the importance of naming architects and designers in social media posts as well as news articles mentioning their work.

An additional goal of the campaign was to create a ripple effect within the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, allowing other member cities to draw inspiration from the exemplary practices implemented in Montréal, such as this initiative that fosters and supports creativity and design-oriented thinking.
