Berlin Fashion Week

18 - 22 Jan 2016

Twice a year, Berlin becomes the centre stage for the international fashion and lifestyle industry. During the Berlin Fashion Week, fashion experts, buyers, trade visitors and media representatives come together at fashion and award shows, learn about the latest developments at trade fairs, visit exhibitions and attend offsite events.

Highlights of the Berlin Fashion Week from 28th of June until the 1st of July 2016 include the fashion trade fairs PREMIUM Exhibitions at STATION Berlin and PANORAMA at the Berlin ExpoCenter City as well as the runway shows for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin, which will once again take place at the Brandenburg Gate in the heart of Berlin.

The Fashion Week’s varied programme is rounded off by the high-fashion ordering platform SHOW & ORDER, the streetwear trade fair BRIGHT, Seek and Selvedge Run.

This season, Berlin will once again be showcasing green fashion, presenting the latest trends and discussing current issues surrounding the topic of Ecological Design. Featured events include the trade show GREENshowroom, this time in cooperation with the Ethical Fashion Show, as well as the Lavera Showfloor for fashionistas.

Since 2007, the Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Technology and Research has been supporting the fashion industry with an annual budget of up to EUR 1 million and a comprehensive set of initiatives. Each year at least eight fashion shows by Berlin-based fashion labels are co-funded by the Senate. Since 2013, at least five Berlin fashion labels have been given the opportunity every year to present their collections as part of the Paris Fashion Week, with future shows also planned in New York. Funds of up to EUR 50,000 as well as coaching have been given to up-and-coming Berlin-based fashion labels since 2010 as part of the “Start your fashion business” awards. Numerous other programmes sponsored by the federal state via Investitionsbank Berlin have been set up for fashion companies and are increasingly being utilised, including coaching services provided by the Kreativ Coaching Center, Design Transfer Bonus, “Wachstumskapitalfonds Kreativwirtschaft”(capital fund for promoting growth in the creative industry) and individual trade fair funding.

Since 2007, Berlin Partner für Wirtschaft und Technologie GmbH has been responsible for providing communication services surrounding the Berlin Fashion Week. On behalf of the Senate Department for Economics, Technology and Research, Berlin Partner has developed the official key visual that is used for outdoor advertising in the city, advertisements in national and international magazines and newspapers and for all relevant social media channels. The official portal www.fashion-week-berlin.com with its unique calendar overview of all events during the Berlin Fashion Week is being gradually developed and enhanced with editorial content, with the aim of further strengthening Berlin’s standing as a European fashion capital.
