Bilbao Bizkaia Design Week (BBDW) is an event organized by the Bilbao Bizkaia Design Council (BiDC), an initiative of Bilbao City Council and the Biscay Provincial Council to promote the creative industries as a factor of economic development and national and international projection of Biscay.
The aim of the theme of the fifth edition is to take a look at the future from design: Design in all its forms as a tool and a driving force for imagining and constructing possible and desired futures, which provide a response to the challenges facing our society, our cities, our businesses and organisations. In short, addressing these challenges from the creative sectors, with a different perspective, which is innovative, ambitious and speculative. Not forgetting technological development, but without placing it in the centre of the solutions.
To bring together all these perspectives, all the imagined scenarios, and unite them to construct a pledge for the future from design, this is the challenge of the latest edition of Bilbao Bizkaia Design Week.
This event includes a number of activities which take place in different spaces around the city. These are scheduled by the leading stakeholders of the Bilbao-Bizkaia design ecosystem.
During this year’s edition, the guest city at the BBDW19 is Dundee, Scotland. The city will take part with two installations which will be in place throughout the design week: Shpeel; and Print City.
