On occasion of FH Joanneum’s Lecture Days, this year for the first time there will be the entire department Media and Design, including Information Design, Exhibition Design & Communication, Media, Sound and Interaction Design also Industrial Design, Journalism & Public Relation and Content strategy, will be integrated.

The title is of course inspired by the classic ‘Design for the real world’ by design pioneer Victor Papanek, who dealt with the topic that is currently up-to-date again already in the 1970s – keywords: Open Source, Social Design, Social Media …

The kick-off to this year’s event is already happening on the occasion of Designmonat Graz’s opening. The exhibition ‘Nothing stops Detroit’ is done in cooperation with FH JOANNEUM and there will also be a workshop with South-American Norma Andreu alias Carma Carmina. The Montréal-based graphic designer, fashion illustrator and blogger gives a lecture on ‘Design + Social Media = #sharingiscaring’ and tells about her manifold cooperation projects, which have resulted from her social network. An interurban project, which looks from the Western design world to the East, presents itself likewise interactive. Together with British Higher School of Design in Moscow, students of the Institute of Design and Communication, headed by Daniel Fabry, develop an interactive installation in public space. The students attending were looking for places in Graz and Moscow and explored possibilities of technical implementation.
