TORINO DESIGN OF THE CITY 2020

01 - 29 Oct 2020

From October 1 to 29, a new edition of Torino Design of the City will be held, despite this uncertain times, with enthusiasm and determination, with in presence and online appointments.

Once again, the programme includes the events of the institutions working on Design, members of the Design Advisory Board, from Graphic Days, which inaugurates the event with Transitions, and investigates the paradigms and scenarios relating to society and the environment and their transformations, to Utopian Hours, the last event scheduled, this year dedicated to The City At Stake, and goes to the core of the issue: the identity and purpose of cities, which today are being radically questioned.

Among the many events: Torino Fashion Week, a Virtual Visit to the UNESCO Campus in Torino, the exhibition LINGOTTO LIVES & RE-LIVES, Masterclass 2020 on how to make a museum accessible, the exhibition Unico. Art design’that highlights the hybrid and exclusive nature of works of art-design, alongside the exhibition proposed by Sant’Agostino casa d’Aste, the research of Felicità Civica, the appointments at MAUTO and many other events, initiatives and exhibits.

The programme also includes performances, such as VIA SACCHI RE-LIVE, the initiatives by Hackability, which has recently been awarded the Honorable Mention of the XXVI ADI Compasso d’Oro ADI Award, the international survey by Fondazione Santagata on sustainability of UNESCO sites, the redesigned Urban Lab headquarters, and the appointments with Bottom Up! Frstival.

It will be possible to attend the round tables scheduled as part of the UNESCO Creative Cities of Design meeting online and in English, this year hosted in Graz in collaboration with St. Étienne, which focuses on the social, smart and sustainable aspects of urban development. Guests include Andrea Paoletti, Charles Landry and Aglaée Degros.

The City of Torino set up two events: the first, with delegates from Italian UNESCO Creative Cities, on 16 October, for the signing of a Protocol outlining future common lines of work. The objective is to strengthen the network and build collaborative projects between Italian UNESCO Creative Cities at regional and national level.

The second, on 29 October, with the Circolo del Design, submit the research Torino City of Design edited by the Santagata Foundation for the Economy of Culture with the support of Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo and the Chamber of Commerce of Torino, outlines the common elements of identity, visions and needs expressed by the players in Torino design field – designers, companies, training institutions, students, associations – and is the basis for the measures carried out by City of Torino over the next few years and that will be illustrated during the event.

Torino’s work on Design therefore continues with an in- depth analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of its supply chain and the construction of networks at national and international level. We hope that this edition, like the previous ones, will be a stimulus to carry on enhancing the value of the actors working in this sector in our territory.
