Between the 5th and 7th of July 2024, the Municipality of Covilhã received a visit from official delegations from UNESCO Creative Cities of Design who travelled to our city after participating at the XVI Annual Conference of UNESCO Creative Cities in Braga.
During two days, representatives of Bangkok (Thailand), Greater Geelong (Australia), Kobe (Japan), Nagoya (Japan), Kortrijk (Belgium), Muharraq (Bahrain), Queretaro (Mexico) and Curitiba (Brazil) participated in visits to J. Gomes textile factory, the Wool Museum of the University of Beira Interior (UBI), the Estrela Geopark (UNESCO), the New Hand Lab and the Multimedia Gallery Luís da Cruz.
During these visits, participants had the opportunity to contact local creatives, businesspeople, and designers, as well as to tour the city and feel the gastronomical and cultural dynamics that animate its public spaces in the summer through the diverse programming of the Portas do Sol Festival promoted by ASTA Theatre Company, and a visit to the WOOL Fest’s Urban Art itinerary.
The Municipality of Covilhã expresses its gratitude to all the international delegations that took part in this visit, hoping that it strengthened the bonds between our cities and paved the way for the future establishment of strategic partnerships in the field of design, which will promote sustainable development and ensure a promising future for generations to come.
