a contemporary interpretation of the traditional folkloric weatherproof cape

Photo: Erwin Polanc

Themes of the city, designed as abstract patterns and woven into fleecy loden – Klaus Kempenaars, a cosmopolitan designer with deep roots in Styria, set out to find the typical visual themes of Graz and designed patterns that would display them. The Grazfleck shows parts of the BIX-multi-media façade of the Kunsthaus Graz (realities:united, 2003), the construction structure of “Lichtschwert“ (Hartmut Skerbisch, 1992) and the pattern of Orangerie Graz (Splitterwerk, 2005). Round forms were implemented by using woven Jacquard techniques. The Grazfleck is a traditional garment with modern design, which can be worn as a cape and also functions as a blanket.
